Episode Prompto was originally released as optional downloadable content for Final Fantasy XV. It was originally released on June 27, 2017.

When the Royal Edition for consoles and the Windows Edition for PC came out it was included with those versions.
Clearing the Episode gives Prompto access to the Tundra Attire he wore during the Episode in the main game, the Lionheart gun (in the main game and in his Episode), and the ability to use the technique Trigger Happy in his Episode and while playing as Prompto during battle in the main game. (with character swap) It also changes the title screen animation and music. The original title screen plays “A Frozen Soul” while the cleared title screen plays “Home Sweet Home”
Composer Naoshi Mizuta was the guest composer for Episode Prompto. Episode Prompto’s soundtrack was released as part of the Final Fantasy XV Original Soundtrack Volume 2.

Episode Prompto takes place during Chapter 12 of the main game. Prompto is knocked off of the train at the end of Chapter 11 after Noctis is tricked by Ardyn.
A trailer for Episode Prompto was included at the end of Episode Gladio after completing it. The trailer actually shows a scene that happens in the Episode with slight changes and in a different location. (it even plays the same music track “Identity”)
