The Barcode:
First of all it should be pointed out that Prompto’s Barcode is on the Zegnautus Keep Key Card that Noctis uses in Chapter 13 to gain access to areas of the facility. These shots were taken when Noctis was using the card at one of the terminals.

The numbers read as:
N – iP01357 (so far I have not been able to find what this sequence means, if anything)
05953234 (this sequence is Prompto’s Unit Number)
You can hear him being referred to as his unit number in this clip from Episode Prompto:
Visibilty:
Prompto always keeps his barcode covered. Since most of his official outfits in the game have his arms exposed, he always wears bracelets on his right wrist over the barcode:

He even had his barcode covered up in the anime Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV:

There are a few instances though where his barcode is visible.
One is while wearing the Kingsglaive Garb (no jacket) :
It seems in the ten years that have passed since the events of Episode Prompto, (since you first get this outfit on your first play through in Chapter 14) Prompto became more confident in who he was and didn’t let the barcode define him anymore.
The other times the barcode is visible in the game is in Episode Prompto. There are three times when Prompto will uncover his barcode during the episode.
The first time is at the start of the Episode when you wake up in the facility. Prompto will note that “it’s gone” , the bracelets covering his barcode, and his sleeve will be pulled up slightly and the barcode visible.

The second time is right before you meet Verstael. Prompto will pull his sleeve up and scan his barcode again to open the door to the room with the clones.

The final time is at the campscene after you escape from the first facility. Prompto will pull up his sleeve and try to scratch off the barcode. Prompto will then consider trying to burn the barcode off of him (which you can choose to attempt or not)

Details:
In the main game the font on the barcode differs from the font used in Episode Prompto. In Episode Prompto they used the same font that is used on the clones in the tanks:

It also uses the same font that’s on the Zegnautus Keep Keycard in Chapter 13:

The barcode in Episode Prompto has a mosaic texture to it:

The clones barcodes and Prompto’s are both like this in Episode Prompto. It is more visible on the Prompto clones in the tanks. I’m assuming this was added for the next detail:
The barcode also glows green when it is scanned in Episode Prompto:

It does not glow in the main game when scanned in Chapter 13:

The barcode in the main game also does not have the mosaic texture on it.
The Information:

Younger Verstael Besithia (as seen in Episode Ardyn) and older Prompto side by side.
Prompto is a clone of Research Chief Verstael Besithia of Niflheim. Verstael began cloning himself when the Empire needed more “bodies” for the Magitek Army and the methods they were using at the time weren’t keeping up with demand and they were also having issues with the people they were infecting with the plasmodia at the time having some sort of sense of self left over.
All clones at birth/creation were imprinted with a barcode. The barcodes allow access to parts of the Magitek Research Facilities…and was also a means for the Empire to keep track of/classify the clones since they were for lack of a better word…throw aways. They were only being created to die. The clones were kept in tubes until they were injected with the plasmodia and sublimated.
Prompto was supposed to be injected with the plasmodia, his body broken down into a miasma, then that miasma was to be injected into a Magitek Core and implanted into a Magitek Soldier.
Since Prompto was taken from the facility at one year of age…he was never injected with the plasmodia and grew up as a normal human being. He doesn’t have any starscourge in him nor is he “programmed” for anything. He doesn’t have any “MT” in him. He’s just a normal human that had an unconventional beginning to his life.
Prompto’s Code is N-iP01357/05953234. Prompto’s numbers do not follow the Numbering Instructions found on the “Prototype Numbering Instructions” document found in Episode Prompto. Prompto was born in 735. This cataloging went into effect in 746. Prompto was taken from the facility in 736. So this numbering went into effect eleven years after Prompto was born. Prompto’s barcode used an older method of cataloging that was in effect before this new one took place.
It seems the clones were allowed to age some (as we saw the clones in the tanks in episode Prompto) before they were sublimated.
