Side quests in Episode Prompto become available after completeing the main quest “Loss of Self”. The next morning after the main quest “Moving Forward” becomes available you will be told you can now undertake side quests.
Side quests in Episode Prompto are completely optional. They do not give any experience or gil. They are of note to do since completing them gives CPUs (to upgrade the snowmobile), Elixirs, and Phoenix Downs.
Most side quests are relatively easy to complete, though there are two that will have you facing high level enemies.
While you can do all the side quests solo, it is recommended to wait until Aranea joins you to undertake them.
Side quests are available through out the day and at different times. All side quests have a two “hour” (in game hours not real time) window in which they are available. Meaning you have that window of time to get to the quest and start it, not complete it. Side quests do not overlap. There is only one quest up at a time.
If you are doing a side quest and the time overlaps into the start of another, the new one will not appear on the map until you leave the area of the current side quest or complete it in time. If you start a side quest at say 8:00 and the next one starts at 11:00 but you don’t complete the current side quest until 1:00, you will have to wait until the next day for the 11:00 quest to appear again.
Any side quest that you are on will stay up until completed or until you leave the “zone” of it. You do not have to worry about a side quest despawning while you are in the middle of it.
There are 10 side quests in all to complete and they are all repeatable.
THE SIDE QUESTS
MY LITTLE GARULET
The first side quest you will come across will be “My Little Garulet” You will most likely have this quest pop up when Prompto starts the main quest “Moving Forward”. This quest is easy enough to complete alone.
This quest starts at 7:00 and ends at 9:00. To complete it you must defend the Garulet from the Flexitusks attacking it. If the Garulet is killed the quest will fail. The Garulet can be attacked and killed by Prompto so be careful not to target it.
Completing the quest will award you 5 CPUs, 5 Elixirs, and 2 Phoenix Downs.
THE CLIMB
The next quest isn’t really a side quest, but it’s of note since it allows you access to the next side quest that becomes available. It is a one time quest and does not give any reward other then a shortcut back to the top of the mountain.
To start the quest head to the area below on the map and look for a path through the trees.
Just follow the path until you trigger a loading screen. (the loading screen is always just a grey screen for me so don’t be alarmed) Once you come out of the loading screen you’ll be back at the top of the mountain near the first facility you escaped from. This is the only way to get back to this area as the way you came down has a one way drop off.
THE SNOW-WALKING DEAD
The next quest takes place between 9:00 and 11:00. To get to it take the previously mentioned short cut to the top of the mountain.
To complete the quest you just need to take out several waves of Magitek soldiers. The enemies will come in waves from both the North and South of the quest “zone” Kill all the waves to complete the quest. You will receive 3 CPUs, 5 Elixirs, and 2 Phoenix Downs.
CRAZY MOTORSLEIGH
The next quest starts at 11:00 and ends at 13:00 (from this point on I will be using 24hour/Military time since it’s used in game) It begins near where the previous one ended.
This one is fairly straight forward. Ride the snowmobile to the bottom before the timer ends. You don’t have to worry about any enemies or missiles like you did on your first time down. Just ride to the bottom. If you’re having trouble beating the timer you can undertake some other side quests to get CPUs to upgrade the speed on the snowmobile. Complete this quest to get 3 CPUs, 5 Elixirs, and 2 Phoenix Downs.
Conservation Order No. 128
The next quest begins at 13:00 and ends at 15:00.
It is the first “difficult” side quest since you will be up against a level 99 MA-X Angelus Casus-0 Mech and some Magitek Soldiers. The Mech being the obvious challenge. Make use of the shack nearby to restock your weapons. To complete the quest kill all the enemies.
Complete this quest to receive 10 CPUs, 5 Elixirs, and 2 Phoenix Downs. This quest also may take awhile to complete so you may miss the next quests coming up at 15:00 or 17:00. Just keep that in mind.
Emperor of the Angoris
This quest starts at 15:00 and ends at 17:00.
Another side quest with a high level enemy. This time you face a level 99 Kaiser Behemoth. Thankfully there’s another shack nearby to restock weapons. This is another quest that may overlap into upcoming quests causing you to miss them so keep that in mind.
To complete the quest kill the Behemoth. You will receive 10 CPUs, 5 Elixirs, and 2 Phoenix Downs. This is also the only side quest to give you an achievement
AVALANCHE OF STEEL
The next quest takes place at the top of the mountain so use the shortcut you unlocked earlier to get back up there. This quest starts at 17:00 and ends at 19:00
Another straight forward quest. You will have two mechs on drop ships up in the air firing missiles at you. Simply dodge the missiles until the time limit is up to complete the quest. The quest doesn’t fail if you are hit.
Complete the quest to receive 3 CPUs, 5 Elixirs, and 2 Phoenix Downs.
BURIED IN THE SNOW
The next quest starts at 19:00 and ends at 21:00. It is near the previous quest, right outside the facility.
An easy quest. Just gather the CPUs scattered around in the snow (look for the blue shinies on the ground) Collect them all to receive 5 CPUs, 5 Elixirs, and 2 Phoenix Downs.
BLINDED BY WHITE
This quest is at the bottom of the mountain. After you complete the previous quest just ride down to the bottom of the mountain using the path you took for the Crazy Motorsleigh quest (the short cut is only one way unfortunately) This quest starts at 22:00 and ends at 0.
This quest pits you against several waves of daemons ending with a single Deathclaw. Kill all the enemies to receive 5 CPUs, 5 Elixirs, and 2 Phoenix Downs.
GHOST IN THE SNOW
This quest starts at 2:00 and ends at 4:00. This is also an interesting quest to note since it is the only quest where you will hear the track “In A Trance” played. This is the only side quest to use a unique battle theme.
Just kill the group of daemons that spawn to complete the quest. You will receive 5 CPUs, 5 Elixirs, and 2 Phoenix Downs,
LAW OF THE WILD
The final side quest starts at 5:00 and ends at 7:00.
You face a level 40 Elder Coerul, a level 37 Treant, and a level 44 Bandersnatch. This is another quest where a shack to restock your weapons is nearby. To complete the quest kill the enemies. You will receive 5 CPUs, 5 Elixirs, and 2 Phoenix Downs.
After that the side quests will just cycle through in the same order again as the day goes on. (starting with My Little Garulet at 7:00) Any quests you missed or want to repeat can be done again this way.
