Snowmobile/Timed Trials

The Snowmobile is a method of transportation in Episode Prompto. You gain access to it after escaping from the first facility.

The Snowmobile is able to be upgraded with CPUs. CPUs are obtained from doing the various sidequests that become available after Prompto meets with Aranea at the camp.

The Snowmobile has four things you can upgrade. Speed, Jump, Damage, and Stability. Speed increases your top speed on the snowmobile, jump increases the maximum jump height on the snowmobile, Damage increases the Flagrum SMG’s damage output (the gun you can fire while on the snowmobile) , and Stability increases the snowmobile’s resistance against impacts. Unfortunately none of these upgrades carry over to the snowmobile timed trials.

There are three tiers for Speed, Jump, and Damage. The first tier costs 5 CPUs, the second 10 CPUs, and the last 15 CPUs. The Stability upgrade has only one tier and it costs 30 CPUs . To fully upgrade the snowmobile you will need a total of 120 CPUs. Upgrading the snowmobile is completely optional and unless you want to do everything in Episode Prompto it’s not needed at all.

The Snowmobile

Interesting detail to note is that the Speedometer on the Snowmobile actually works (just like the Regalia’s in the main game) The speed maxes out at 70 mph.

As mentioned above the Snowmobile comes equipped with a gun that sits on the front right side called the Flagrum SMG. This weapon takes the place of Prompto’s Handgun in the UI when you’re driving the Snowmobile.

It can be fired while driving the snowmobile by holding down the R1 Trigger. You’ll continue firing until you let go of the trigger button. Prompto will randomly fire at any nearby enemies.

Timed Trials

After your first play through of Episode Prompto the Timed Trials become available from the main menu. The Timed Trials are three courses that take place on the long stretch of the mountain in Episode Prompto that you rode down to escape the first facility (and also where you do the sidequest Crazy Motorsleigh) The goal is to reach the finish line as fast as possible. You can get 1 star, 2 stars, or 3 stars depending on your time crossing the finish line.

To help you get to the finish line faster you’ll want to collect the Speed Shards scattered through out the course.

The effects of the speed shards stack so the more you collect, the faster you’ll go.

Getting three stars on all three courses gives you the achievement “Dogged Rider”

This Achievement title is actually a nod to the title of Prompto’s Brotherhood Episode, Episode 2: “Dogged Runner”

To get three stars, you’ll need to get less then 1:13 on Slippery Slalom, less then 1:29 on Avalanche Ambush, and less then 1:16 on Snowglide Run.
